Animal Medical Center (AMC) became an AAHA Accredited Veterinary Hospital in 2009 (see information regarding accredidation below) and has also been voted the Best of Bozeman over the past several years. “Becoming accredited ensures that we are offering our clients what they already expect of us: The highest quality medicine and service for their pets.”

In 1992, Dr. Barrows simultaneously opened Animal Medical Center (AMC) and founded the Bozeman non-profit organization known today as the Montana Raptor Conservation Center.

Dr. Barrows attributes her interest in veterinary medicine and exotics to her upbringing in a household full of orphaned wild animals and stray dogs and cats in Connecticut. Her veterinary preceptorship at the New York Bronx Zoo further fueled her passion for avian and exotic animal medicine. She loves the teamwork fostered in a clinical setting and the challenge of diagnosing and treating illnesses in all household pets. Dr. Barrows graduated from Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984 and was hired there as a Laboratory Animal Clinician. She founded the Iowa State Wildlife Care Clinic and taught raptor and wildlife medicine to vet students. She and her husband moved to Montana in 1987.

The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) was established in 1933 to promote optimal care of small animals by veterinarians. AAHA is recognized internationally for its dedication to professional development, for its hospital accreditation standards, and for the excellence of its educational meetings. The organization strives to enable veterinarians to provide the highest quality of care to pets and to meet the public's needs as they relate to the delivery of small animal veterinary medicine. Technicians and Veterinarians at AAHA accredited hospitals keep up on the latest practices in veterinary medicine. Member hospitals must meet high standards in various areas of practice including safety, client service, surgery, sanitation, animal nursing, laboratory, patient records, human resources and pain management, to name just a few.
